AmTryke Cycles

The fun and freedom of riding your own bike is something everyone should be able to enjoy. Thanks to the AmTryke therapeutic tricycle, even individuals who are unable to operate a traditional bike can finally realize this wonderful experience. These unique tricycles, which can be hand and/or foot operated, are designed to accommodate riders of all ages, sizes, and varying degrees of physical limitations. Both physical and occupational therapists acknowledge the AmTryke tricycle's many therapeutic benefits, citing improved motor skills, strength development and self-esteem.

REACHcycles Evaluation Site
REACHcycles will conduct evaluations at our quarterly events by licensed therapists and VCU Student Therapists who are all trained and certified for properly fitting children for cycles. We have 25 trained therapists that will be conducting fittings throughout the year outside of these events. The best time for evaluation of the child will be coordinated upon receiving all required forms, a therapist will then contact you schedule a time. Contact Michelle Froede at mlfroede@chva.org if you do not have a PT/OT to conduct evaluation.

If an individual has all necessary forms submitted and is recommended for an AmTryke, but their family is financially unable to purchase the tryke, that person will be placed on the REACHcycles Wish List.  Wish List requests are filled as REACHcycles raises the funds on a first come first served basis. General wait time is three to six months. This may lengthen or shorten based on availability of funds and cycles. We focus on children (21 and younger) in the Richmond area, as well as veterans and active duty families with disabled children. We will consider Virginia applicationsunderr certain circumstances. If you are outside of Richmond we encourage you to contact us for advocacy on the best method of providing your child a bike and raising funds.

If your family or PT/OT feel that another specially adapted bike model outside of the AmTryke models would fit your child better, please contact us at REACHcycles@gmail.com for a separate application process to acquire the bike.

We encourage families to help fundraise for their child's bike to expedite the process. For helpful fundraising tips click the link below.
